5.3. Repair of the steering mechanism

Dismantling
1. Remove the steering mechanism from the car and clamp it in a vice with soft sponges.

2. Remove collars 16 (see fig. 5.2) and rings 23 fastenings of protective covers of the 17th lath of the steering mechanism.
3. Remove protective covers 17.
4. Unbend sides of lock washers 18 and turn off internal tips 19 together with spherical drafts 24 and external tips 26.
5. Turn off a lock-nut of the 8th emphasis of a lath a cap key (S=41 mm).
6. Turn off a nut of the 7th emphasis and take out a spring 9.
7. Turning a gear wheel 1 clockwise, shift an emphasis of the 10th lath and special nippers take it from a case.
8. Remove a protective cap 6 from a gear wheel.
9. Turn off a nut the 4th key (S=24 mm).
10. Slightly tapping on a case with the plastic hammer, take out from a case a gear wheel 1 assembled with the ball bearing 2.
11. Remove a persistent ring 3 and press the ball bearing from a gear wheel shaft.
12. Take out a lath 14 steering mechanisms.
13. Remove a persistent ring of the 15th plug and take out the lath plug 12 with a ring.

Check of technical condition of details
1. Wash out in kerosene of a cavity of a case of the steering mechanism and all metal details. Wash out rubber details in warm water and wipe with a pure rag.
2. Attentively examine whether is not present on working surfaces of a gear wheel 1 (see fig. 5.2) and laths of 14 wear tracks, zadir or рисок. Eliminate insignificant damages with a fine-grained grinding skin or a "velvet" file. Replace the worn-out and damaged details.
3. The ball bearing 2 has to rotate freely, without jammings. On a surface of rings and balls there should not be a wear and traces of jammings. Rollers and holders of the forward bearing of a gear wheel also should not have wear and damages. At the slightest doubt replace bearings new.
4. Check a condition of protective covers of a lath and external tips, a cap, a cuff of a gear wheel and the plug of a lath. If they have cracks, gaps or leaky landing on details, replace them.
5. Check axial and radial gaps of spherical hinges of steering drafts and external tips. If the side play in spherical hinges is felt or dirt, sand got to them, and also at emergence of corrosion on spherical fingers, replace them assembled.
The nominal sizes, admissions and landings of the main interfaced details of steering are specified in tab. 5.1.
Limits of admissible values of wear, gaps and deviations of a geometrical form of the main interfaced details of steering are given in tab. 5.2.

Assembly
1. Clamp a case of the steering mechanism in a vice with soft sponges.
2. Install the lath plug 12 with a ring (see fig. 5.2) in a case of the steering mechanism, previously having greased a cylindrical surface of a ring with FIOL-1 lubricant.
3. Establish a persistent ring of the 15th plug.
4. Press the roller bearing 11 in a case, having put in it FIOL-1 lubricant.
5. Establish a lath by the 14th smooth end in a case from a gear wheel, previously having greased a lath with FIOL-1 lubricant.
6. The ball bearing 2 on a gear wheel also establish to Napressuyta a persistent ring 3.
7. Grease a gear wheel with the bearing FIOL-1 lubricant and establish it in a case.
8. Establish a cuff of the 5th gear wheel in a bearing nut opening, having greased working surfaces of a cuff with FIOL-1 lubricant.
9. Apply NTs-273 enamel on a carving part of a nut 4 bearings and wrap it in a case the moment of 28-35 N · m (2,8–3,6 kgfs · м).
10. Zakernite a bearing nut in four points.
11. Apply a thin film of lubricant on a cylindrical surface of a case and insert an emphasis of the 10th lath into a case.
12. Establish a spring of the 9th emphasis.
13. Apply NTs-273 enamel on a carving part of a lock-nut of the 8th emphasis and wrap it in a case the moment of 11-14 N · m (1,1–1,4 kgfs · м).
14. Screw a lock-nut and at the end of the course of a carving combine the middle of a side of a lock-nut with an emphasis nut tag. Holding a lock-nut in this situation, turn off an emphasis nut on 30 ° (1/2 sides of a lock-nut). Then, holding an emphasis nut, tighten a lock-nut the moment of 64,7-78,5 N · m (6,5–8 kgfs · м).
15. Measure the gear wheel provorachivaniye moment which has to be 0,59–1,68 N · m (0,06–0,17 kgfs · l) on all course of a lath.
16. Establish lock washers 18, having entered its short moustaches on internal diameter into lath grooves, and wrap tips with spherical drafts the moment of 64,7-78,5 N · m (6,5–8 kgfs · м). Bend short moustaches on two opposite sides of a tip 19.
17. Establish a lath in average situation, at the same time the difference of values of the course of a lath in one and other party against the stop has to be no more than 1,5 mm that no more than 15 correspond to a difference of angles of rotation of a gear wheel from average situation against the stop in one and other party °.
18. Check a full speed of a lath to the right-to the left against the stop which has to make (124±1,0) mm.
19. Establish a protective cap 6 on gear wheel vents so that at the average provision of a lath the index of a cap coincided with a ledge index on a case of the steering mechanism.
20. Establish protective covers of the 17th lath, fix them by collars 16 on a case and rings 23 on drafts.
21. "Acquire" nuts 25 and tips 26 on the carving ends of drafts.
22. Tighten nuts the 25th moment of 44-55 N · m (4,4–5,6 kgfs · l) after installation of the rack mechanism on the car and adjustments of a convergence of wheels.
23. After assembly be convinced that when moving a lath with a speed, the corresponding frequency of rotation of a gear wheel of 30 min.-1, on a protective cover does not have swellings and an overclamping, and the moment of rotation of a gear wheel during all course of a lath is still in limits of 0,59-1,68 N · m (0,06–0,17 kgfs · м). Otherwise remove the causes of the revealed defects.
