At each maintenance check a state and density of landing of protective covers 17 and 30 (see fig. 5.2). Replace the covers which cracked, torn or lost elasticity.
Make sure that at the rectilinear provision of wheels of the car of a spoke of a steering wheel are symmetrized a vertical axis. Otherwise establish a cause of defect and eliminate it.
Turning a steering wheel against the stop to the left and to the right, check visually and aurally:
reliability of fastening of the steering mechanism and steering wheel on the helmsman to a shaft;
whether there is no gap in spherical hinges of internal and external tips;
reliability of fastening of internal tips to a lath and nuts of fingers of spherical hinges of external tips;
whether there are no jammings and hindrances interfering turn of a steering wheel.
If knocks and jammings are found, disconnect side drafts from rotary fists and repeat check. Having convinced that knocks and jammings proceed from steering knots, remove them from the car and repair.

1. In salon unscrew screws of fastening and remove facing casings 43 and 22 (see fig. 5.1).
2. Separate blocks with wires of understeering switches 38, 40 and the switch of ignition 51.
3. Uncover 19, turn off a nut 33 and remove a stripper a steering wheel 30. In the absence of a stripper finally do not turn off a nut of fastening of a wheel, leave about three rounds. Shaking for spokes, with a force pull on yourself a steering wheel so that it descended from shliyets of a steering shaft. Then finally turn off a nut and remove a steering wheel.
4. Weaken a bolt of fastening of a connector 39 and remove a connector from a shaft.
5. Turn off a nut and take out a coupling bolt of fastening of the lower cardan hinge 6 to an intermediate shaft of a steering column. Insert the screw-driver into a cut of the lower fork of the hinge and weaken with its help landing of a fork on a gear wheel shaft.
6. Turn off four nuts of fastening of a shaft of steering to an arm of pedals and take out a shaft in salon.
7. Establish a steering column upside-down taking into account the following: before installation of a steering wheel it is necessary to expose a lath in average situation, i.e. to combine tags on a cap 6 (see fig. 5.2) and a case. Arrange spokes of a steering wheel as it is shown in fig. 5.1 (the deviation no more than ±5 ° is allowed). Before installation of a steering wheel it is recommended to adjust a convergence of wheels as after adjustment the provision of a steering wheel can change.

Check cardan hinges (fig. 5.3), existence of gaps in connection of the elastic coupling with shaft, and also a condition of epiploons of 7 bearings of the cardan hinge.
Cracks, gaps and other defects are not allowed. Replace the damaged details new.
Check a condition of bearings 11 and 13 of a steering shaft. Turning a shaft 10, be convinced that it rotates in bearings without knocks and jammings. Otherwise the damaged steering column needs to be replaced.

Removal and installation of the steering mechanism
1. Take out forelocks and turn off nuts 35 (see fig. 5.2) fingers of spherical hinges on both sides of the car.
2. Vypressuyte fingers from rotary levers.
3. Turn off a nut and take out a coupling bolt of fastening of the lower cardan hinge 6 (see fig. 5.1) to a driving gear wheel 1 (see fig. 5.2). Insert the screw-driver into a cut of the lower fork of the hinge and weaken landing of a fork on a gear wheel shaft.
4. Turn off two nuts 38, take out bolts of the 39th fastening of a case of the steering mechanism to a cross-piece and remove the steering mechanism.
5. Before installation of the steering mechanism you will expose a lath in average situation — combine tags on a cap 6 and a case.
6. Install the steering mechanism on the car, having connected at the same time a shaft of a driving gear wheel to the cardan hinge. Insert bolts of fastening of the mechanism and wrap their nuts.
7. Insert a coupling bolt of fastening of the lower cardan hinge 6 (see fig. 5.1) to a driving gear wheel 1 (see fig. 5.2) and wrap its nut.
8. Connect spherical hinges of tips of steering thirsts for rotary levers and wrap nuts of fingers of hinges the moment of 27-35 N · m (2,8–3,6 kgfs · м).
9. Install forelocks. If the cut of a nut does not coincide with an opening for the forelock, then tighten a nut before coincidence of an opening to the next cut. Check and if necessary adjust the angles of installation of wheels.
